Background – SPOILER WARNING!

Roy Mustang grew up in a rural suburb just outside Central in the country of Amestris. From a very early age, he had always expressed a deep interest in alchemy, and took the chance to learn some when a traveling peddler happened to stop by. This peddler told him of a great teacher in Central, and once Roy was of age, sought out this teacher. Hawkeye took the young man under his wing at the age of 15.

Roy eventually decided that he would try to use his alchemy for good and took the State Alchemist exam to join the military and work for his country. However, his teacher still refused to teach him the secret Flame Alchemy Roy had been so desperate to learn. After the heated discussion, the older man died in front of Roy due to a heart complication. Before he died, the man promised that if Roy would use alchemy in the correct way that his daughter would give him the secret.

His daughter, Riza, held the secret of flame alchemy tattooed into her back. After confiding to her about his dream to protect his country and make his people happy, Riza allowed him to take the research from his back for the cause.

However, things didn’t turn out that way. Mustang was eventually sent to the front lines of the Ishbal Rebellion – using the power he once promised to protect people with to kill instead. Horrified by the senseless bloodshed in Ishbal, Roy decided that he was going to become the Fuhrer by any means possible so he wouldn’t follow any senseless orders again.

On this journey to the top, Roy took the Full Metal Alchemist under his wing to also help him in his quest for the Philosopher’s Stone. However, corruption in the military ran deeper than either of them thought. Roy eventually had to face against the Fuhrer, winning in the end, but at a small price. While everyone thought that Roy had died, in reality, he had somehow got sent to the world of Spira through the Gate.

Missing his sight in his left eye, Roy woke up in the middle of Luca. With his talented acting skills, he managed to convince everyone around him that he had suffered amnesia when he lost his eye. With his political and social background, Roy managed to easily establish himself within the Luca society, earning a fairly decent amount of money and status. Roy, however, does keep himself neutral when it comes to the different organizations.

Roy often seems to be a flamboyant airhead, often molding his personality to fit what others think of him. He’s lazy, often procrastinates, and seems to use people (especially Ed) as his pawns. However, deep down, he is a rather intelligent man, plagued by his own demons he hides behind his happy façade.

Edward Elric

Roy’s subordinate from Amestris, and the one he took under his wing to help his ascension to the top. While he deeply cares for the boy, he is still unsure if it is anything more – especially as the blonde had already confessed his own feelings.

Clara Aquroya

He thinks the woman is pretty, and can easily see that she likes Ed. However, despites Ed’s attempts to set them up, Roy has no romantic or sexual implication towards her at all.

Zelos Wilder

Roy met the ex-Chosen through the journals over their ‘love’ for woman. Roy can easily see that there’s something under the surface…but has yet to scratch it.
